Travist-EP was developed as aid in Level Acoustics & Vibration’s consultancy work. It calculates the excitation forces of a train passage in the superstructure. Train, track and ground are linked in a multi-body model in the time domain. During a train passage in the model, the forces are calculated per railway sleeper.
The EP version, which stands for Elasto-Plastic, also calculates any settlements in the superstructure and repeats the passage 1,000 or 10,000 times to visualise the interaction between the dynamic forces and plastic deformation. This model explains for example the occurrence of hanging sleepers, whereby sleepers are no longer fully supported by the ballast bed.
So Travist-EP calculates the aging of the track due to track use as a result of different types of trains and different types of track construction. There is an extensive library of train types and track systems in the program.
